My friend Kimberly emailed me this video, as she and her friend Tiffani, adopted both their Chihuahuas from shelters. Check out how adorable Mouse and Gidget are.

Being a Chihuahua-a-holic, it upsets me the huge numbers of Chihuahua, and Chihuahua mixes at City Shelters ( #2 breed after Pit Bulls ) at Non Profit Rescues and thru private parties looking for a home. City Shelters have AMAZING adoption deals, even NO ADOPTION FEE,  for Seniors and those who qualify, you would not believe the amazing pets, who end up in City shelters through no fault of their own. Numbers will increase due to the Beverly Hills Chihuahua movie popularity, housing market, mixed with a  bad economy.

Really sad part, as you read this, Chihuahuas are being put to sleep, as there are just not enough resourses to care for them.

Several friends who have adopted from shelter’s, and they all rave about what a steal, getting a 24/7 Best Friend who since the moment they set eyes on you, &  thinks you are the greatest thing since sliced bread….I’ll have 2 of those please

I adopted Paris, who was actually originally named Paris, from a guy who was “too busy” for her, translated - got bored, too much hassle. Tinkerbell - bought on the Street, as common for tiny breeds like Chihuahuas to be smuggled across the Border, she was really sick with parasites, dehydration, and was less than 1lb and too young to be taken from her Mom ( she was approx 4 weeks, they should leave at 12 ) so new owners changed their mind, when those pesky inevitable vet bills came around, plus a sick dogs no fun, right ? so I took her in, spent thousands and spent last Holiday Season camped out in my makeshift Puppy I.C.U, feeding her formula every 3 hours around the clock, luckily she is a glossy coated healthy little stinker now, but it was very touch and go for 3 or so months. These 2 have scored big time, as they live like Celebs, but it does not matter where they come from, or there past, dog respond to kindness, patience and bond very fast.

 Paris and Tinkerbell - Both ADOPTED ! not from some fancy breeder or Pet Store.

PLEASE, consider the huge responsibility attached with owning a dog, and I could ramble for hours about how high maintenance and fragile a tiny Chihuahua’s are. Even falling of the couch can result in a broken leg requiring surgery, ask my girlfriend Heidi, she spent over $2000 on Doggie Orthopedic surgery for her precious Sophie, who simply fell of the sofa.

Help me spread the word, that Hey, the movie was super cute, but buy a stuffed Chloe or Papi the Canine Stars of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, as dog ownership is like having a baby, they pee, poop, puke, chew, bark, get sick, howl, hump, beg, dig,scratch and even snore and fart ! you can’t switch them off, they hate being alone, or sleeping alone, and will let you know……….

So, my message is, please consider adopting, spay and neuter, Chihuahuas are lovable high maintenance pains in the ass, and think are you ready for a full time BABY who never grows up ?

I’ll get off my Soapbox and finish with - Please help me spread the word that shelters are not full of big, mean and vicious dogs, there are all kinds of breeds, from tiny Chihuahuas to giant Mastiffs and everything in between.
